Mad River Chorale to sing joint spring concert
This spring, the Mad River Chorale is joining forces with South Burlington Community Chorus for an ensemble of 100 voices singing works of Mozart, Fauré, and Bernstein.
The local Valley concert will be held on Sunday, May 12, at 4 p.m. in the Dave Gavett Theater at Green Mountain Valley School on Bragg Hill in Fayston. There will also be a concert on Friday, May 10, 7:30 p.m. at the Elley-Long Music Center in Colchester.
Conductors Mary Jane Austin (MR Chorale) and Erik Kroncke (SBC Chorus) and pianist Alison Cerutti have gathered an additional orchestra of harp, French horn, and string sextet to accompany the singers for this special event. The Mozart works (Te Deum Laudamus and Ave Verum Corpus) and the Fauré works (Cantique de Jean Racine and Requiem) are especially interesting because one was written by each when he was a teenager, and one by each very close to the end of his life. The program will end, as a nod to spring, with Leonard Bernstein’s Make Our Garden Grow from the operetta Candide.
